Make Up and Beauty Tips...

Make Up Tips From Brittney

Who would have thought something so simple as putting make up on could be so different.  There are different ways to apply make up and as the saying goes, "Different Strokes for Different Folks."  I use my own methods that i have learned over the course of the years.

Growing up, my mom never told me how to wear make up so i thought i'd share with you what i have learned.

Tip #1-  ALWAYS start with a clean face! I know it sounds unnecessary, but what's the point on putting make up over make up and also, it can clog your pores giving you blemishes and blackheads.

Tip #2- Concealer. It's the most misused product in make up because most people don't know how to use it. Most people just put their concealer on under their liquid make up, which is partially correct. However, concealer is more effective if used under your liquid make up and then reapplied over liquid make up, then place powder over your face giving you the appearance of a clear complection. Be sure not to cake on the make up, it can look heavy and you will feel uncomfortable knowing you have a pound of make up on your face.

Tip #3- Blush. If you are for some reason or another allergic to blush, a simple way to take care of it would be to pinch your cheeks.  Not too hard but suck in your cheeks and where ever the crease goes on the sides of your face start pinching.lol.

Tip #4- Learning not to be a cheap whore. Ok me and you can fight day in and day out about this next tip but trust me i know by experience. The brush/brushes you use MATTER! Dont get me wrong, the Dollar Store and Big Lots are great places, but they dont have the proper brushes.  The better the brushes, the better the make up. I really can afford Neiman Marcus brushes or M.A.C.'s products either so i took my happy ass to Ebay (My Bestfriend) and i got a pack of like 15 brushes for $13. thats pretty affordable. They are from California and are a good brand. If you can, try to get brushes with bristles made of horse hair.

I will post more tips tomorrow, but practice these and tell me how they work. :)

Unintended Pregnancies

Brittney Serrioz
The Et Cetera

In 2006 the Deficit Reduction Act was signed by President George W. Bush in attempt to slow down the economy’s budget for programs competing with Medicare and Medicaid.

In a nutshell, college students were getting their contraceptives straight from pharmaceutical companies through their college health centers. The law was passed because the government wanted to stop the companies from beating the prices of Medicaid and Medicare since they were already “low-cost.”

The unintentional effect was that campus health centers around the nation now had to raise the prices of their birth control to match or raise the cost of the other programs but ended up doubled, tripled and quadrupled.

This law outrages many women, including myself. Yes, it was unintended, but when it comes to the population of the United States its nothing to mess with. Our government complains about economic downfalls and inflation but they let this happen. They have had over a year to fix it and they have yet to do so.

If women aren’t getting the medication they need at a reasonable price they wont buy it at all – they will take the risk and we know condoms are not always effective. Each partner doing their part to stay safe is really the answer.

I agree that it would be the responsibility of the women to get her own contraceptives to but a small hiccup in the system will have a large effect on the Nation.

Women are obviously getting them from their college because of the reasonable price – some don’t even qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, but what is worse, some of them cant afford insurance, and the government is doing a hell of a job not making sure everyone gets the help they need.

According to a Dallas Morning News editorial, advocacy groups such as Planned Parenthood have tried to act fast to have the law changed, but have failed because congress believes words such as “reproductive health” and “contraception” will provoke the presidential veto. Religious rights are also another reason they say they have failed.

Part of the president’s game plan was to fight unwanted pregnancies and abortion, but now once again many Americans are stuck with no choices. The population of the United States will continue to grow and its time for the president, congress and the legislature to come out from under the covers and face the veto monster.

We need our birth control damnit.
